The Harvard Music Department presents a portrait concert of George Lewis, the celebrated composer, electronic music pioneer, author and 2018 recipient of an honorary doctorate from Harvard University. The performance includes a rendition of Lewis’ 2007 Artificial Life for improvising orchestra by the Harvard New Music Ensemble and featured guests.
This performance is free and open to the public with Harvard ID or proof of vaccination against Covid-19.

This performance will feature selections of vocal & instrumental works written by Jewish composers during the Holocaust. Accompanied by powerful footage from Terezín and beyond, From Behind Barbed Wire grapples with themes of alienation, horror, unity, love, and resistance in times of adversity. It is recommended, but not required, that tickets be reserved in advance through the Harvard Box Office.

Jessica Shand joins the Harvard College Opera in its showcase of scenes & selections from the operatic repertoire, performing a transcription of Lenski’s Aria from Eugene Onegin.
Works by Liebermann, Tchaikovsky, Piazzolla, and Widor in Pierce Hall of the New England Conservatory of Music, with a light reception to follow.
